Yes, ideally. Students provide their own equipment: a handgun in good working order (no single-action revolvers), two magazines, and 30 rounds of ammunition. If you need a rental or more ammunition, Range Time, where we hold the live-fire qualification, has both available for purchase. New and not sure what to get? Absolutely. The class is built for everyone from complete beginners to experienced shooters. We start with the fundamentals and safety and move at a pace that builds confidence. Plenty of our students walk in nervous first-timers and leave comfortable and prepared.

It’s a full-day course, about eight hours total. You’ll spend that time in the classroom covering the law, safety, and fundamentals, then head to Range Time for the live-fire qualification.

Yes. To complete the course you must pass a written exam and a live-fire qualification (21 of 30 rounds on target). Both are very achievable: the entire class is designed to prepare you for exactly what you’ll be asked to do. See the full curriculum.

You must be at least 18 years old and legally allowed to own a firearm.

It meets the requirements for eligibility for a North Carolina concealed handgun permit. Passing the class is the training step. You then apply for the permit itself through your county sheriff’s office, which we walk you through in class.

That depends on your county sheriff’s office and their current processing times, which can vary. We’ll explain what to expect and how the process works during class.

North Carolina has reciprocity agreements with many states, but they change. Always check current reciprocity before you travel. We cover this in class, and there’s a reciprocity link on our Free Resources page.

Not to start. Please bring your own 30 rounds if you can. Ammunition, along with gun rentals if you need one, is available for purchase at Range Time, where we hold the live-fire qualification.

Yes. We offer private group classes: the same concealed carry course, just for your people and not open to the public. Private groups require a minimum of five students. Apply as a group to get started.

Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are a must for the range. A higher-neckline (crew-neck) shirt is smart to keep hot brass out, along with a hat plus your eye and ear protection. Bring note-taking material too. See the full equipment checklist on the About the Course page.

The classroom portion is held at Sportsman’s Warehouse in Wilmington, NC. From there, we head to Range Time for the live-fire qualification. We’ll send directions and parking details for both when you register.
